HM Courts & Tribunals Service
More good days at work
Opportunity
His Majesty’s Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) aims to drive employee retention, attendance and performance, through the employee experience. Line managers are at the heart of this strategy as a key link between the organisation and its frontline teams. They have a continual impact on employee experience and the ability to directly influence team members’ relationships with work.
The organisation needed to ensure that it provided the best practical, self-service support and could create an environment where people’s wellbeing and engagement were priorities for management.
How We Supported
After a period of extensive research and listening to key stakeholders, we facilitated a change workshop for 31 lead engagement and wellbeing champions from across HMCTS.
We used our change orientation process, heavily customised to the circumstances of this organisation, to help champions:
- Define the types of support that would have the most impact and where they should be targeted.
- Decide how they could best build the confidence of managers to own engagement and wellbeing, achieving greater consistency across the workforce.
- Plan the interventions needed and the resources required to make this happen.
Outcome
The experience led champions to “think differently about engagement and wellbeing.” Many of the leads were able to implement the defined interventions within their own teams and the outputs from the workshop informed HMCTS’s strategy at a national level. The impact continues to be monitored through the annual staff survey and key metrics such as attendance.
